Purdue Pharma LP reached a tentative agreement Wednesday with several plaintiffs in an attempt to resolve widespread litigation.
According to Reuters, the OxyContin maker has been sued over its alleged role in fueling the U.S. opioid crisis.
Sources say Purdue plans to fight with states opposing its settlement offer in bankruptcy proceedings starting as soon as next week.
At least 20 other state attorneys general have said they will not agreed to the deal with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family, according to NBC News.
Purdue and the family are on board to settle lawsuits in a deal valued at up to $12 billion.
More than 2,000 cities, counties and other plaintiffs are suing Purdue, along with 26 states and U.S. territories.
