For the sixth time in less than three years, Honda Motor Company has issued another major recall of the Fit compact, one of their top-selling vehicles, as well as the Vezel crossover.
Over 283,000 Fit cars and Vezel crossovers have been recalled due to reports of six fires related to a control systems flaw, as well as the occurrence of two collisions that were associated to a power steering defect. Fortunately, neither the collisions nor the fires resulted in injury or death.
Since 2013, Honda has issued recalls concerning automatic transmission and control modules, engine control units, engine ignition coils, as well as power supply circuits.
Former President Takanobu of Honda Motor Co. resigned from his position after quality woes first began with the initial set of recalls in October of 2013. Takahiro Hachigo, who has made changes within company responsibility, has replaced Takanobu as his successor.
According to Hachigo, Honda attempted to introduce models optimized for disparate regions in excess of a pace and scale in which they were able. Constant struggles from the automaker have resulted in the recent announcement of management changes, which includes the resignation of Chairman Fumihiko Ike and second-in-command to the CEO, Tetsuo Iwamura.
The occurrences of quality problems with new Honda product introductions have been a continuing problem, with the recall of the 2016 Honda Civic this last February.
