According to a report by Reuters, on Tuesday, the US Supreme Court‘s conservative majority appeared ready to hand President Donald Trump a victory on his administration’s plan to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.
Conservative justices reportedly rallied in defense of the administration’s stated justification for using the citizenship question in the decennial population count, while liberal counterparts remained skeptical.
Reuters reports that lower courts have blocked adding the question, ruling that doing so would violate federal law and the US Constitution. A ruling by the Supreme Court is reportedly due by the end of June.
